Movement of Charcoal
This work reveals time through the path of charcoal moving across ash.
As charcoal passes over the accumulated ash, it leaves traces. Sometimes it rolls, stops, scatters—like living a life, I walk the path I have chosen, leaving marks. Charcoal, through repeated movement, eventually wears down into ash, and upon that ash another piece of charcoal enters and makes a new path.
Charcoal and ash are not separate. Both come from the same tree, and even that tree grew from soil nourished by the ashes of the past. Charcoal leaves its trace and returns to ash; ash becomes the ground for new charcoal. This endless transformation is not opposition but a cycle in which each conditions the other.
That cycle resembles our own lives. One trace disappears yet becomes the foundation, and upon it another trace continues. Life is overwritten, erased, and inscribed again. In this way, our existence accumulates into a single palimpsest.
The surface appears still, yet the breath of time does not cease. Precisely because the surface is still, time flows. Within that flow, we encounter the sensation after disappearance.

숯의 움직임
이 작업은 재 위를 이동하는 숯의 길로 시간을 드러낸다.
쌓인 재 위로 숯이 지나가며 흔적을 남긴다. 때로는 굴러가고, 멈추고, 흩어지며, 삶을 살 듯 내가 선택한 길을 걸으며 흔적을 만든다. 숯은 움직임을 거듭하다 결국 스스로 재가 되고, 그 재 위로 또 다른 숯이 들어와 다시 길을 낸다.
숯과 재는 다르지 않다. 둘은 같은 나무에서 비롯되었고, 그 나무 또한 과거의 재를 거름 삼아 자라났다. 숯은 흔적을 남기며 재로 돌아가고, 재는 다시 새로운 숯의 바탕이 된다. 이 끝없는 전환은 대립이 아니라 서로를 조건 짓는 순환이다.
그 순환은 우리의 삶과도 닮아 있다. 하나의 흔적은 사라지면서도 바탕이 되고, 그 위로 또 다른 흔적이 이어진다. 삶은 덧씌워지고 지워지며 다시 기록된다. 그렇게 우리의 존재는 겹겹이 쌓여 하나의 팔림프세스트가 된다.
화면은 정지되어 있으나, 시간의 숨결은 멈추지 않는다. 오히려 화면이 멈춰 있기에 시간은 흐른다. 그 흐름 속에서 우리는 소멸 이후 오는 감각을 마주한다.

Bewegung der Kohle
Diese Arbeit offenbart die Zeit durch den Weg der Holzkohle, die sich über die Asche bewegt.
Wenn Holzkohle über die angehäufte Asche zieht, hinterlässt sie Spuren. Manchmal rollt sie, hält inne, zerstreut sich – wie im Leben gehe ich den Weg, den ich gewählt habe, und hinterlasse Spuren. Die Holzkohle nutzt sich mit jeder Bewegung ab, wird schließlich selbst zu Asche, und auf dieser Asche zieht ein weiteres Stück Holzkohle und schafft einen neuen Weg.
Holzkohle und Asche sind nicht getrennt. Beide stammen vom selben Baum, und selbst dieser Baum wuchs aus einem Boden, der von der Asche der Vergangenheit genährt wurde. Holzkohle hinterlässt Spuren und kehrt zur Asche zurück; die Asche wird zum Grund für neue Holzkohle. Diese endlose Verwandlung ist kein Gegensatz, sondern ein Kreislauf, in dem das eine das andere bedingt.
Dieser Kreislauf ähnelt unserem eigenen Leben. Eine Spur verschwindet und wird dennoch zum Fundament, auf dem eine weitere Spur fortgesetzt wird. Das Leben wird überschrieben, gelöscht und wieder neu eingeschrieben. So sammelt sich unsere Existenz zu einem einzigen Palimpsest.
Die Oberfläche scheint unbewegt, doch der Atem der Zeit kommt nicht zum Stillstand. Gerade weil die Oberfläche unbewegt ist, fließt die Zeit. In diesem Fluss begegnen wir der Empfindung nach dem Verschwinden.
