역사적으로 철학적으로 0에 대한 쓰임과 해석은 다양하다. 1도 마찬가지로 문화 종교 등 사용에 따라 그 해석과 쓰임이 다양하다. 나는 0은 재로. 숯은 1로 켄버스에 ‘그림을 그린다.’ 0의 모습을 그릴 때는 0의 형태와 재의 특성에 집중을 하고 1을 표현을 할 때는 그 형태와 숯에 집중을 한다. ‘그리는동안’ 숫자들을 보고 있자니 이 대 자연의 신비와 역사가 상상되기도 하고 어떨 때는 월세의 압박감에 저 대자연 보다 강한 현실감을 느끼기도 한다. 그렇게 주어진 공간에 0과 1이 만나 2진법의 수가 나열된다. 제목은 작업이 완성이 된 후에 이진법의 숫자를 확장된 ASCII를 이용해 해석한 후 결정이 된다.

The interpretation and use of zero have varied significantly throughout history and philosophy. Likewise, the number one has taken on different meanings depending on its role in culture, religion, and other contexts.
In my work, I represent zero using ash and one using charcoal, “painting” these numbers onto a canvas. When depicting zero, I focus on its circular form and the delicate, shifting nature of ash. For one, I emphasize its linear form and the bold, solid qualities of charcoal.
As I create, the numbers on the canvas prompt different reflections. Sometimes, they lead me to ponder the mysteries of nature and history. At other times, they pull me firmly back to reality—reminding me of the pressing, everyday concerns of life, like the weight of paying rent.
On the canvas, zero and one come together to form sequences of binary code. The title of each artwork is determined after the piece is completed. I decode the binary sequences using extended ASCII characters, and this translation becomes the title.
